2019 Summer Internship Development Program- Asset Management Services Intern (Multiple Openings) - Req. 1900146


Job Summary:

Asset Management Services (AMS) helps serve the sophisticated needs of Raymond James clients with a variety of institutional-grade platforms, strategies and hands-on support. AMS helps our advisors simplify the investment management equation so that they can use their time to build their client relationships. The AMS Summer Program is a partner program within our firm-wide Internship Development Program (IDP). This 10-week summer program allows a deeper dive into the different functionalities within our AMS department: Advisory Consulting, Sales, Research, Operations, and Administration.  While this is not rotational, the interns will have the opportunity to gain exposure to multiple AMS divisions, work on a collaborative end of summer AMS internship project, and have personalized collaboration with senior-level leaders across AMS. 


Under general supervision, the intern will use skills gained through training and experience to assist with specific projects within an assigned functional area for a specified period of time.  Follows established procedures to perform tasks and receives general guidance and direction to perform other work with substantial variety and varied complexity.  Some judgment is required to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to apply to more complex assignments. Resolves routine questions and problems and refers more complex issues to a higher level. Routine contact with internal and external customers may be required to exchange basic information.

AMS Advisory Consulting
Advisory Consulting is exclusively dedicated to supporting a specific kind of Raymond James financial advisor – those who manage client investments independently without using the firm’s “managed models”. Drawing on insights of top producers, industry resources and firm research areas across the firm, Advisory Consulting’s team provides comprehensive, institutional-quality portfolio evaluation services designed to help build stronger, smarter solutions.


AMS Sales
Sales acts in two main capacities: 1) the advisor’s primary voice and resource at the home office, 2) the key partner to assist advisors in building their fee-based practice through face to face interaction in the field. Highly knowledgeable and well educated in the department’s offerings, this group is key to guiding advisors to the right solutions for their clients.


AMS Research
The Manager Research & Due Diligence department is a team of professionals dedicated to the research and evaluation of professional portfolio managers for the Raymond James Consulting Services program. The research and findings produced by this team are also used in making investment decisions for portfolios managed by AMS, most notably our flagship Freedom Portfolios.


AMS Operations
AMS Operations is a large team of support personnel, dedicated to ensuring all back office and trading needs for the advisors are met with the highest standards of excellence. These team members are involved in every aspect of the AMS lifecycle, from account opening and cash distributions to trading our largest portfolios.


AMS Administration
This small team ensures that all parts of the department are running efficiently and productively. With a focus on strategic planning, operational best practices, financial analysis, and product development, they provide guidance and direction to all of AMS




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a professional office environment.
  • Basic concepts, principles and practices of an assigned business unit.

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipments and using, or have the ability to learn, required software applications.

Ability to:

  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Provide a high level of customer service.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

·Rising Junior, Senior, or Masters level candidate seeking a degree in a business related field.

·Preferred major in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or other business related field.

·Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved

by Human Resources.
